System

If you wait until your kid is 16 years old to decide you’re going to start trying to exert some parental authority, you’re too late. That’s like Louise stomping on the brake pedal after the car has gone over the cliff. The mold has set. The die is cast. The wheels are turning, and you can’t stop them. Here’s my favorite part. She’s your kid, she’s your problem, I’m leaving. Until it becomes a crime for your kid to throw a fit, I don’t have any authority here.

There’s no doubt in my mind that your daughter needs to see a counselor, but I’m not going to take her. You can get as mad as you want about how “the system” doesn’t work, and about how “the system” just encourages kids like yours to act crazy. From where I’m standing, it looks like you’re doing a pretty good job of that all by yourself.

It’s weird how your daughter doesn’t want to take responsibility for her actions. I wonder where she gets that from.
