Busy

Just because I’m not driving with my lights and siren on doesn’t mean I’m not busy. Yes, I just saw that person fail to come to a complete stop at that intersection. No, I’m not going to do anything about it. What you don’t know is that I’m on my way to a residential alarm, and there’s someone waiting for me at the house to let me in so we can make sure it’s not being burglarized. I understand you’re probably going to go home and whine to your husband about that citation you got last week for rolling a stop sign, because you know you came to a complete stop, and here I am letting someone else get away with it. More than likely though, you’re going to call my supervisor and complain about the all of the injustice in the world, starting with cops who discriminate against you because you’re _________ (whatever suits you today, fill in the blank). I see violations all shift long, I can’t address every one of them. If I’m not busy doing something more important, I’m more than happy to pull someone over that didn’t signal continuously for 100 feet before changing lanes. But if someone is waiting patiently for me to respond to their call that’s been holding for two hours, I’m going to let the traffic violation slide. God forgive me.
